What Gets Funded? is a hands-on workshop organised by UNIDO and NGIN,-in which Egyptian cleantech startups assess their own investment readiness, see their companies through an investor's eyes and identify the specific work required before fundraising. An angel investor, a venture-capital investor and a successfully funded Egyptian cleantech founder provide the practitioner input; the startups do the work. Each participating company completes an Investment Readiness Checklist, discusses priority gaps with peers and practitioners, and leaves with three concrete next actions.

The workshop is designed as the practical continuation of Funding 101. Funding 101 maps Egypt's funding ladder: what kinds of capital are available, which sources fit different stages and when an entrepreneur should approach them. What Gets Funded? starts with the next question: if a company approaches the right investor, what evidence must it show, what risks will the investor examine and what readiness gaps must the founder close? The session therefore does not repeat the financing-landscape discussion or operate as a second investor panel.
This distinction matters in Egypt. A cleantech venture may need independent technology validation, access to test facilities, a demonstration project and proof that a pilot can convert into a paying customer. It may also face certification or permitting requirements, imported equipment and foreign-exchange exposure, longer procurement and payment cycles, significant capital expenditure, manufacturing or supply-chain questions and a financing need that does not fit conventional startup instruments. These are not only pitch-deck problems; they are evidence, execution and risk-reduction problems.
